Change is constant. It is easy to feel nice, warm and cozy when life is safe. Most people do not like change. It is scary, yet inevitable. In fact, change is the one thing you can count on. From natural transitions such as empty nesting, retirement to abrupt events that turn our world upside down, life is in flux. There may be a loss of a loved one, an ending of a friendship, relationship or marriage. Home foreclosures. Layoffs. Life is a series of grievances. The pandemic taught us the dynamic and unpredictability of life. Yet, sometimes we get stuck reminiscing on the past. It is good to look back with gratitude on the past. But, it can also be easy to sink into despair and think it is just over for us. But, what if we were to let go and embrace the change? Ask the questions. What will I do with this? What next? There is a time for mourning. Although after a time, what if you came to realize that there could be purpose in your pain or new season? Maybe you will help others who are going through what you went through. Or new adventures ahead? A new career or hobby you now have space to pursue. Write a book? A new love? The possibilities are endless. Learning to let go and surrendering to what was and what is in the here and now, can be freeing. A mentor of mine once said, "When you are holding on so tightly to someone or something, your hands are not open to receive." This view of life is a decision. You can resist change or embrace it. Let go and see what happens.
